In a powerful demonstration of compassion and advocacy, Mr. Deaf International Hillary David and Miss Deaf International Patience Nashua recently traveled to one of Uganda’s most underserved regions to address a critical health concern affecting young women.
The ADCAH representatives journeyed to Kotido in northern Uganda, an area where extreme poverty creates significant challenges for local communities. During their visit, they identified a pressing issue affecting young girls’ health and dignity: many cannot afford basic sanitary products and resort to using sand during menstruation.

In response to this urgent need, David and Nashua distributed sanitary pads to girls in the community, providing an essential resource that supports both physical health and personal dignity. This initiative represents ADCAH ‘s commitment to addressing practical needs in vulnerable deaf communities worldwide.
“No young woman should have to compromise her health or dignity due to lack of basic necessities,” the ADCAH’s representatives shared during their outreach work.
This humanitarian effort in Kotido highlights how the Mr. and Miss Deaf International platform continues to use its global visibility to create meaningful impact in communities that often remain overlooked.
